What the rank is measuring
The rank arrives at the end of a shift, delivered in the fiction by Rank Chook — the publisher's own description of the game names the judge, not a scoreboard. Before it arrives, the review screen reports the things that decided it: hits, bad hits, hints used, jobs completed, jobs failed, and how you did against the clock.
That list is the whole scoring model as far as the game tells you in text. There is no published tier table, so this page does not invent one: what you can control is every input on that review screen.
The four things that move it
Each of these shows up on the review screen, which is why they are the levers worth pulling.
| Lever | Effect | How to protect it |
|---|---|---|
| Clean hits | Exactly what the clue asked for | Re-read the clue before firing, not after a miss |
| Bad hits | Shooting a person or an animal costs money and drags the rank down — one player lost a whole rank to a single bad hit | If the target could be a person or an animal, do not take the shot |
| Hints used | Hints are bought with reputation and the rank drops after use — two recordings mention it | Save hints for a job you have re-read twice |
| Time | The clock is on the review screen; one player only discovered the limit there | Plan the order of job notes before you start shooting |
Rank is per day, not per location
The office map keeps your best rank and best time for each day, which means a single bad day can be replayed on its own. You do not need to rerun the whole location to fix the number.
That is also why an overall rank can look worse than your play: before Hotfix #1 on September 19, the Work Board calculated your Overall Rank from every possible day rather than the days you had completed. If the board still looks wrong, update the game and re-read it — the formula changed.
Chasing a clean day
The order that works for a rank run is the opposite of the order that works for exploring.
- 01Re-read every job note for the day before your first shot — the list is the grading rubric.
- 02Take the camera where the rifle cannot resolve the target; a wasted shot costs time and can cost a bad hit.
- 03Do the timed or moving jobs first, while you still have the full clock.
- 04Skip hints. If you are stuck, pause and re-read the note instead of trading rank for an answer.
- 05After the review screen, note which line was not clean — that is the job to replay, not the whole day.
Extra modes are not rank
Time Attack, Ammo Hunt and Photo Mode are the game's bonus modes, listed by the publisher alongside the main locations. They are for a break or for practice on the scope, not for pushing your Overall Rank.
Photo Mode is the one worth using while hunting secrets: it frames a scene without spending a shot, which makes it a free way to scan for props you would otherwise miss.
FAQ
**Does using a hint permanently hurt my rank?** It hurts the rank for that day; replaying the day without hints replaces the stored best.
**Can I replay one day?** Yes — the office map tracks a best rank and time per day, so you replay the day, not the location.
**Why did my Overall Rank change after an update?** Hotfix #1 changed the Work Board formula to count completed days only.
**Do the bonus modes count toward rank?** No, they are separate modes.
